Meet the Team

Dr. Erin Avirett

Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Specialist in School Psychology

A Texas Native, Dr. Erin Avirett, Ph.D. was born and raised in Amarillo. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from WTAMU with a B.A. in Psychology in 2006. Dr. Avirett graduated Summa Cum Laude with her Ph.D. in School Psychology, with a specialization in School Neuropsychology, in 2011 from Texas Woman’s University. She then returned to the area and completed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship at West Texas A&M University, where she worked with collegiate students requiring diagnostic evaluations and personal therapy. Dr. Avirett is dually licensed as a Licensed Psychologist (LP) as well as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP). Dr. Avirett has worked and trained in a variety of settings, including the school district, out-patient hospital, private practice, and university settings. She has completed over a dozen regional and national publications and presentations, with her primary research interests being: executive functioning, traumatic brain injury, cognitive rehabilitation, and social skills training for autism spectrum disorders.

Dr. Avirett started her private practice nearly a decade ago. Since that time, she has equipped hundreds of families in the tri-state area with diagnostic evaluations, parenting resources, and therapy. She collaborates with local school districts to provide evaluations and behavioral support. Dr. Avirett is also passionate about working with families and guiding parents towards positive and evidence-based parenting advice. In 2021, she co-created Mind & Child, and a Parenting 101 course, as a way to serve more families that the one-on-one nature of private practice allows.

Dr. Avirett has served on boards of local, panhandle nonprofit organizations, such as Turn Center and the Women’s Philanthropy Fund, and is an active member in her church. She enjoys traveling and exploring the Texas Panhandle with her husband and three children.

Dr. Jesseca Jackson

Post-Doctoral Psychology Extern

Dr. Jesseca Jackson, Ph.D. is currently completing her post-doctoral psychological fellowship under the supervision of Dr. Erin Avirett. She also holds her Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP) license. Dr. Jackson graduated from Texas Tech University with her Ph.D. in School Psychology in May 2023. She completed her M.Ed. in Educational Psychology with a concentration in School Psychology in 2020 from Texas Tech. She graduated from the University of Texas with a B.A. in Applied Learning and Development in 2004. While at Texas Tech, Dr. Jackson completed her certification as a therapist in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). She has several scholarly publications and conference presentations centered around her research interests of traumatic stress response, peer relations in children and adolescents, PCIT, and adverse childhood experiences. Dr. Jackson served on the Graduate Academic Affairs Committee while at Texas Tech and also served as a board member for the Texas Association of School Psychologists (TASP). Additionally, she represented Texas Tech as a student leader for the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). She enjoys spending time watching basketball and taking trips to Santa Fe, New Mexico with her husband and their two sons.

Dr. Kayla Witcher

Post-Doctoral Psychology Extern

Dr. Kayla Witcher, Ph.D. graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in education from Texas A&M University. She continued to obtain her Ph.D. in School Psychology from Texas A&M University in 2023. Dr. Witcher completed an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited internship at Lewisville Independent School District, where she engaged in psychological evaluations, academic and behavioral consultations, family therapy, crisis intervention, social skills training for students with autism spectrum disorders, group therapy, and counseling services. Dr. Witcher has had a variety of experiences serving individuals in public-school districts, private practice settings, and community mental health clinics. Dr. Witcher has conducted research into the impacts of social emotional competence and mentor self-efficacy on the quality of the mentor and mentee relationship. Dr. Witcher has conducted trainings for various mentor organizations throughout Texas to support and provide techniques for mentors to best support their mentees. She is supervised by Erin Avirett, Ph.D., LP, LSSP. Dr. Witcher was born and raised in Amarillo, Texas. She loves to spend time with her family and friends, especially her fun-loving husband, Jas, and her little boy, Ames. They are her biggest joy! She enjoys reading mystery books, decorating her home, and cuddling with her Sheepadoodle (Remington). Dr. Witcher has a heart for service and is passionate about children and the impact that they will make on our future.

Arlene Cox

Administrative Assistant

Arlene has worked with Avirett Psychological since 2021, and is the administrative glue and heart of our practice! She handles the day-to-day operations of the office such as scheduling our patients, answering the phones and emailing our clients. Arlene is eager to be of service to ensure every person has a positive experience.
Arlene is married to her husband, Levi, and they have two beautiful daughters. She is native to Amarillo and a member of the Down Syndrome Diagnosis Network (DSDN) group. Arlene loves to spend time with her family in particular learning with her daughters. Her hobbies include cooking, knitting, and reading.
